Choreography

  • (1-4) 1s forward to meet and then fall back
  • while 2s fall back and then come forward to meet
  • (5-8) Partners set and cast down while 2s move up
  • 1s repeat the sequence up:
  • (1-4) 1s forward to meet and then fall back
  • while 2s fall back and then come forward to meet
  • (5-8) Partners set and cast up while 2s move down
  • Chase for the 1s:
  • (1-8) 1L (top 2nd corner) cast down (partner follows full sequence)
  • cross up between 2s, cast down around 2R,
  • dance straight across the set (partner settle in below 2R)
  • to end in progressed places
  • Chase for the 2s:
  • (1-8) 2R (top 1st corner) cast down (partner follows full sequence)
  • cross up between 1s, cast down around 1L,
  • dance straight across the set (partner settle in below 1L)
  • to end in original places
  • (1-8) 2L hey for 3 across with the 1s (start w 2nd corners passing R)
  • (1-8) 2R hey for 3 across with the 1s (start w 1st corners passing L)
  • End the hey with 1s casting down, 2s moving up

Background

The meanwhiles in A may be a Seattle variation, but I’ve also seen it danced that way elsewhere. If dancing with these, ask the 2s to start close and the 1s to start wide.

Teaching Notes

B. The chase here is almost like a half figure eight that starts with the cast.

C2. The ending here should feel natural for the dancers in the hey, but the dancer left out needs to be alert to move up on time.
